Aaron Theall - Director of Bands, DeRidder High School

Theall

Mr. Aaron Theall is currently the director of bands at DeRidder High School. He also assists with band at DeRidder Junior High School. Both the marching band and concert bands have earned superior ratings under the direction of Mr. Theall. He is currently in his sixth year at DeRidder High School and DeRidder Junior High School.
Mr. Theall graduated with a bachelor's in Music Education from Louisiana State University in 2012. He serves as the Assistant Corps Director for Louisiana Stars as well as works as a part of the brass instructional staff. He began his drum corps career with Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps as a member of the mellophone section in 2008 and returned in 2011.
In his free time, Mr. Theall enjoys playing Dad to his two dogs and cooking with friends. He also enjoys playing in the local community theater’s productions of musicals. Mr. Theall plays french horn in the Lake Charles Community Band, cornet in the British Brass Band Association of Louisiana, baritone saxophone in the Southwest Jazz Ensemble, and rings hand bells and plays french horn in the orchestra at First Baptist Church in DeRidder, Louisiana. Mr. Theall has served as an honor band clinician and marching band judge in the state. He is a member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia Fraternity and Pi Kappa Lambda music honor society. While attending LSU, he was named a Who’s Who Among Students in American Colleges and Universities. He was also recognized in 2013 as a recipient for the Louisiana Music Educators Association’s Outstanding Young Music Educator’s Award.



Evan McAleer - Assistant Band Director, DeRidder High School and DeRidder Junior High School

Originally from Nashville, TN, Mr. McAleer graduated from Father Ryan High School in 2008 having participated as a member​ of both the Band and Theatre where he grew to love the performing arts.  He then went on to pursue his desire to share music and other art with the world by performing as a member of both the Glassmen and Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps, as well as attending Louisiana State University where he received his Bachelor of Music Education degree. 


Upon completing his degree, Mr. McAleer served as a band director at Our Lady of Mercy School, Lake Arthur High School, and Catholic High School while also teaching visual and movement at Blue Knights Drum and Bugle Corps, Phantom Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps, Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps, and the Lafayette, LA based Louisiana Stars Drum and Bugle Corps. 

As a performer, Mr. McAleer is also a founding and active performing member of the Allumer Quartet (Horn Quartet based out of Baton Rouge, LA) where he and the other members are actively commisioning and premiering new works for Horn Quartet. 

Extremely happy to be a part of the DeRidder community, Mr. McAleer looks forward to continuing his musical journey through sharing his love of music and the various other arts with the students at DeRidder High School.


Daphne Richardson - Band Director, DeRidder Junior High School

Ms. Daphne Richardson is currently the director at DeRidder Junior High School and is an assistant at DeRidder High School.  She is currently teaching her 32nd year of band and her 16th year in DeRidder. 

She earned her Bachelor of Music Education from Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas in December 1985.  She has taught in both public and private schools in Missouri, Texas and Louisiana.  Ms. Richardson is a member of NAfME, LMEA, LBA, TMEA, TBA and Phi Beta Mu.  She has served her state as an LBA President, LMEA District 1 Director for both District 1 and 5, Band Division Chairman, Public Relations Chairman and District V Honor Band Chairman.  

Ms. Richardson has directed several Honor Bands in Louisiana and has judged for Large Ensemble and Solo & Ensemble throughout Louisiana.  She was named Louisiana Bandmaster of the Year for 2012.  She currently plays trumpet with the Southwest Jazz Band and with the First Baptist Church Orchestra when in town and not traveling, running and or biking.
