Summer Newsletter

We hope that this letter finds you enjoying your summer vacation.  Although school has only been out a few days, it is time to start planning for the new school year.  This past year’s band was extremely successful.  Work has already begun on making the 2017-2018 edition of the Ambassadors in Blue even better.  Many of you are practicing, attending summer camps, holding sectionals, and doing a variety of other things to prepare for this coming year.  I know that we all need a break, but a little practice every day (even 15 minutes) will help make things much easier in the fall and will ensure our success throughout the year.

The following pages contain important items for the coming year.  Please read all of this very carefully and share the information with your parents.  Pay particular attention to the tentative calendar and clear those dates.  If you or your parents have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at the phone number or e-mail address listed below.  Again, I hope that you are having a wonderful vacation. We look forward to seeing you in August! 

BAND CAMP

Band camp is mandatory for all members of the “Ambassadors In Blue” and will run for a little more than 1 week.

BAND FEES

             The band fee this year will be $120.  This fee will cover your shirts, all entry and participation fees, and other miscellaneous costs. Percussionist will pay an additional $60.00 User fee.  The rental fee on school instruments is $50.00.  ***FUNDRAISING PROFITS MAY BE APPLIED TOWARDS BAND FEES, (profit does not transfer from year to year)***.  All band fees are due August 8th.

REMIND 101

We used Remind last year and it proved very effective in communicating with students about important information. Text @dhsband171 to 81010 to sign up for the DeRidder High School Ambassadors in Blue 2017-2018 remind group. Remind is controlled by the band directors and will only be used when necessary to get pertinent information out to students.

DeRIDDER MARCHING FESTIVAL

Saturday, October 21st2017

Last year’s festival was a tremendous success.  This year’s festival promises to be bigger and better than any festival to date. DO NOT plan anything on this date.  We are going to need every band student and their parents to have another successful festival.  Have your parents get your picture ready now to put an ad for you in the festival program.

MARCHING UNIFORM

We will be ordering shoes during camp.  Shoes will be $30.00.  Everyone will need regulation shoes.  (old marchers should have last year’s shoes)  We will also be wearing plain black crew socks. J

FALL REHEARSAL SCHEDULE

FULL BAND

Monday & Wednesday 7:45 (Regular first hour band)

Tuesday and Thursday– 7:00 a.m. – 8:44 a.m. (Regular first hour band)

Friday – Outside (Football Field) – 7:30 a.m. -- (One run-through)

ADDITIONAL SECTIONALS

Drumline – Weekly rehearsal every Monday 3:00 pm-5:00 pm

Guard – Weekly rehearsal every Monday    3:00 pm – 5:00 pm

DITRICT/ALL STATE AUDITIONS

First round All State auditions will be held on Saturday, September 30th at Barbe High School in Lake Charles.  You have been given the music before school let out and the cuts will be posted August 1st.  This audition is the first step towards several honors – 2nd Round, All-State, College Scholarships, etc. 

Entry is covered by your band fee.  Everyone is expected to participate.  Additionally, audition results will factor into band placement in the spring. It is never too early to begin practicing.

FUNDRAISER

You will have one opportunity to raise funds toward band fees this year.  Our fundraiser will be the Dragon Card.  (Dragon Cards sign-ups will begin during band camp).
